About Rincon PR

Rincón, the town of beautiful sunsets, is located on the western shore of Puerto Rico, two hours drive from San Juan. Over the years, it has become a vacation destination, as well as home, to many North Americans, Europeans, and South Americans. In fact, Rincón has the highest number of North Americans, per capita, than any town in Puerto Rico.

What draws people here from all over the world? The fantastic weather, easy access from the states, the fact that Puerto Rico is a U.S. Commonwealth, and especially the friendly people, who welcome them and make them feel safe and secure.

Rincón has a lot to offer someone who is looking for a laid back life style with interesting people (we all have a story of how we ended up here), good restaurants, surrounded by beauty. Situated at the end of the La Cadena (The Chain) Mountains, Rincón is one of the very few places on the island that offers fantastic view property within walking distance of the beach. There is the best big wave surfing in the Atlantic/Caribbean (surfers say its 25-foot rollers offer the wildest rides this side of Hawaii); fantastic snorkeling among tropical reefs in quiet, clear blue waters in Rincón’s Marine Reserve at Tres Palmas, several continuous MILES of beautiful, uncrowded swimming beaches, deep sea fishing (blue marlin, grouper, and more), and humpback whale watching in February. Rincon’s El Faro lighthouse offers stunning ocean views, and is one of just two passive whale watching parks in the world (the other is in South Africa).

Surrounding areas offer interesting side trips like coffee plantations,   spectacular mountain driving, mini rainforests, the Rio Camuy Cave Park,   Cabo Rojo’s salt flats, Areceibo Observatory’s massive radio telescope, and   the biologically wondrous Phosphorescent Bay in LaParguera. Golfing is   available 35 minutes north in Aguadilla and casino gambling is 20 minutes   south in Mayagüez.

As for shopping convenience, within twenty minutes, you will find Western   Plaza which features a Sam’s Club, K-Mart, Home Depot, and a modern   movie theater with ten screens and stadium seating (the movies are in   English with Spanish sub-titles). Ten more minutes down the four lane road   is the Mayaguez Mall where you will find Sears, JC Penneys, Marshalls and   WallMart, among others.

When coming to Rincón, you don’t need a passport, as Puerto Rico is a US Territory. The US dollar is used, and while Spanish is the first language of the island, you will hear English spoken a lot here. Puerto Rico is on Atlantic Standard Time (AST), which means we are one hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time in the winter and in sync with the east coast when the US goes on Daylight Savings Time.

Getting here has been made easier with flights into Aguadilla (30 minutes away) on United, Jet Blue, and Spirit Airlines from certain east coast cities in the US. Flights into San Juan are plentiful and you can connect to a Cape Air flight into Mayagüez (20 minutes away), or you can drive from San Juan in 2-3 hours on mostly expressway and four lane roads.

Although buying property here is relatively easy compared to other locations in the Caribbean, there can be problems with titles and inheritance laws that can affect your purchase. It is highly recommended that you find a reputable, experienced real estate broker to guide you through this process. When you are ready to take the plunge (…and we highly recommend it!), come on down, and the friendly professionals at Island West Properties will be glad to show you around our little corner of paradise.
